A Mote of Dust

Film

2026, 4mins59s

[ Shot on an ear care wax removal tool ]

Recently, I have gained a new eye, an extension of my body that allows me to see hidden realms beyond the reach of the bare eye.

I hold it the way one holds a pen, tracing shapes in the air, clumsy as a child just learning to write. Every use is a rehearsal in how to look — an adjustment to the tiny world this new eye opens up. It is profoundly nearsighted by nature; only by drawing unbearably close does anything reveal itself.

I drop coins into the well of memory, each one a reflection caught by this small eye. It is also my needle, weaving with me the warp and weft of time. And what it illuminates, in the end, is no more than a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam — barely there, yet for one brief moment, made luminous by being seen.
